Why is it that so many people can't tell if our portraits are pictures or paintings?
Would you know the difference?
All types of people come into our studio, notice the large canvas portraits on our walls and they get confused. "Are these pictures or painting" they ask us.
Many of our clients tell us that they have the same experience at home with their own portraits. Most of their friends and neighbors are not sure if their beautiful wall portraits are photographs or paintings.
Well we think that's wonderful because thats been our goal for a while now... to create portraits that combine the magnificence of an oil painting with the authenticity of a photograph.
You can rest assured that none of your friends will ever confuse one of our magnificent wall portraits with one taken by a photography studio in the local mall or department store.
Which are fine by the way. Department stores and mall photographers do a very adequate job of photographing your child and recording what your he or she looks like at that age.If that is what you are looking for and you have the patience for the long lines and the screaming kids than by all means, go right ahead, you'll have lots of pictures for your wallet and Grandma.
But if that is not what you are looking for...
but instead you'd like something elegant, simple, classic and timeless...a style reminiscent of a bygone era....a style imitating the Old Masters, than a portrait By Faige at Faige Timeless Portraits may be just what you are looking for. A photographic, canvas wall portrait, enhanced by a master artist ....a portrait that will be a true masterpiece, and an heirloom for your home.
.
Faige Kobre a former preschool teacher and director has been photographing children and families of all ages for close to twenty years. She has a particular affinity for children developed through her previous vocation and has been often noted for her unbelievable patience.
A number of years ago Faige decided to concentrate her talents on one style of portraiture. A style that would bring back the grand style of portraiture. A timeless, classic style that would grace the homes of her clients with a lovely piece of artwork that would use clients families and their children as the focus of the artwork. Classic photographic portraits.
And that is why many confuse her photographic portraits with paintings
...... they are a synthesis of the two mediums.
The style is the first thing that throws many off. In todays day and age, many are interested in trendy, colorful, instant pictures. Even though Faige deals with many who like to dress casually, she still photographs against classic backgrounds in a simple manner.Clothing should not date a portrait if the portrait is to be timeless.
The simple clothing be it formal or casual, combined with the classic background and elegant furniture all contribute to the painterly style. The lighting is classic. The posing is simple and natural. You will not find people piled on the floor for any of these portraits.
But that is not all.
After the portraits are taken, you come back about two weeks later to view the images you like projected onto a screen. The image is chosen, the picture is printed after having some basic retouching done digitally. The print is then sent to our master artist who enhances each and every portrait by hand. He smooths the skin tones, removes blemishes, enhances the eyes, removes wrinkles, bags and presents you and your family to the world in a more painterly fashion.
Of course those that want a more natural look get less enhancement.
The portrait is then sent to our lab. The picture is stripped off of its backing and embedded to a piece of artist canvas with a high heat press. This bonds the picture to the canvas which softens the often brittle surface of modern photographic papers. The canvas is then mounted to a stretcher frame and given a coat or two of lacquer.
The magnificence of an oil painting with the authenticity of a picture.
Time runs by so quickly and its so easy to procrastinate but as the well known classical portraitist
Phillip Stewart Charis said:
"People still want to see and remember, they want time to stand still, in some instances to be recalled in every detail. They want to remember the good and the beautiful, the lovable and the kindly. Loved ones grow up and leave, parents grow old and forget at times and all that is left is a picture and a memory."
